Om Pius, “This is My Home, Come The Sleeping…”

Om Pius, “This is My Home, Come the Sleeping…” is a film produced in one of our platforms, Halaman Papua, a continuous media literacy program initiated by Forum Lenteng in collaboration with several local collectives in four cities in Jayapura, Sentani, Wamena, and Timika. The production of this film was done between 2013 – 2015 when Halaman Papua conducted residency projects and media production in the form of video, text, and sound. After series of discussions back and forth, we collaboratively constructed the film Om Pius, “This is My Home, Come the Sleeping…” which will do its World Premiere in Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival 2019 in competition section of New Asian Currents program. This film will compete alongside 22 other films from all over the world from 10-17 October 2019.

Om Pius, “This is My Home, Come The Sleeping …” is a film that records Om Pius’ daily activities such as his activities in the garden, hanging out with friends, also his hobby of playing lottery. Through daily observations, as well as interviews with Om Pius, we find various layers of the surface of the problems that occur in Papua. Problems that seem trivial and personal, but have structural roots when we look again in relation with socio-political conditions that occurred in Indonesia and its correlation with Papua, in the context of its history to date.
