69 Performance Club: Out Of In The Penal Colony (The Partisan Edition)

69 Performance Club: Out Of In The Penal Colony (The Partisan Edition)

“Out of in The Penal Colony: The Partisan Edition” in the Curatorial of  “Jalan Tikus: Open Studio 7 Days 7 Nights Garasi Theatre.”

Out of in The Penal Colony: The Partisan Edition is the fourth edition from the performance series entitled Out of in The Penal Colony, designed by 69 Performance Club. The three series before, were presented each in Belgium, Prague and Geneva. On January 2018, 69 Performance Club received an offer to collaborate in an event of Open Studio 7 Days 7 Nights Garasi Theatre/Garasi Performing Institute. “Jalan Tikus” or “Shortcut” which becomes the curatorial framework in this open studio was responded by a performance, The Partisan Edition.

Similar to the outcome which this collaboration tries to achieve, The Partisan Edition is present as part of Out of in The Penal Colony work which is also still ongoing as a work in progress (rather than a final presentation work). That possibility was read by members of 69 Performance Club by doing a number of further experimentation in the attempt to contextualize Franz Kafka’s short story (In The Penal Colony) in the current situation of art and media. Keywords The Man, Decipher, The Wound and The Script found a new form in this edition. The artist, whistle, flute, a cappella, the stamping feet, noise, presentation-representation, obstacle of internet connection, lighting system, Mini Black Box studio room and the spectator, each work in a reciprocal relationship in an (almost) simultaneous time.

In the curatorial framework from Garasi Performing Institute, this performance is part of the program Cabaret Chairil: transit room to present a repertoire of cross medium and discipline experimental performance. Chronologically, on Sunday, January 14th 2018, the arrangement of performances in this program is “Gedruk Topeng Ireng” Dance by Komunitas Seni Kampung Nitiprayan (Nitiprayan Village Art Community), “Out of in The Penal Colony: The Partisan Edition” by 69 Performance Club, “Untitled” by Tamara Pertamina, and “Refreshing” by Ferial Afiff. Cabaret Chairil is the opening as well as early step as an attempt to delve and understand the concept of “Jalan Tikus” in the context of art now and in the future.
