ARKIPEL Academy 2019

On 7 – 11 January 2019, Forum Lenteng held ARKIPEL Academy for the third time at Puncak, Bogor as part of the 7th ARKIPEL – Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival. The academy was organized in the form of workshops, by inviting a number of experts in the field of cinema and involving a number of participants selected by Yuki Aditya (Director of ARKIPEL) and Manshur Zikri (one of the curators of ARKIPEL).

The participants consisted of writers (film critics) and filmmakers, including: Didi Riyanthoni (Semarang) – Director, Feranda Aries (Makassar) – Director, Sri Buana Mantinu (Bandung) – Director, Bella Kharisma (Pekanbaru) – Writer, Riyadhus Shalihin (Bandung) – Writer, Nabila Warda Safitri (Gresik, East Java) – Writer, Mukmin (Aceh) – Producer, Mahareta Iqbal (Padang) – Writer, Muhammad Abi Rizaldi (Jakarta) – Writer, Alessandra Langit (Jakarta) – Director, Kenneth Jusuf (Jakarta) – Director, Dhio Pandji Soemardjo (Jakarta) – Writer, Hamdani (North Lombok) – Director, and Dendi Madiya (Bekasi) – Director.

This year’s ARKIPEL Academy invited Mahardika Yudha (artist, director and curator) with his presentation entitled “History of Cinema Culture in Indonesia,” Shalahuddin Siregar (director) with  “Artistic Practices in Film Production,” Meiske Taurisia (producer) with “The Strategy for Film Production, Distribution and Funding,” Afrian Purnama (critic and curator) with “Cinema Culture and Cinephile,” Tonny Trimarsanto (director) with “Documentary and Aesthetic Alignment“, and Ronny Agustinus (writer, critic, and cultural expert) “Writing and Literature.”
