Hafiz Rancajale’s Solo Exhibition: SOCIAL ORGANISM

The Hafiz Rancajale’s solo exhibition, entitled Social Organism, was held from May 26 to June 9, 2018, at National Gallery of Indonesia. The opening of the exhibition took place on May 25, 2018. Hafiz Rancajale’s solo exhibition was his third solo exhibition after his last solo exhibition in 1996 with the headline Hafiz: Prints, Painting! At the Jakarta Cultural Center. The Social Organism exhibition tries to review the ideas of Hafiz’s art practices after the Reformation, which is more dominated by works to facilitate art activities. How then the mode of production in doing the facilitation work is discussed in a visual form. The works presented and also the exhibition itself as an art project, Hafiz tries to see the current situation of society, the position of art in society, the development of the history of modern art in Indonesia, and how the process of knowledge exchange taking place in the mobilization of knowledge between the arts and society.

 

In addition to translating works to facilitate art activities through visual works such as; video, object installation, performance, and drawing, Hafiz also conducted a facilitating work practice by organizing a Forum Social Organism discussion held on June 7, 2018 and invited several panelists working as curators, writers and researchers from several cities in Indonesia ; Sita Maghfira (Yogyakarta), Ismal Muntaha (Jatiwangi), Irma Chantilly (Jakarta), Angga Wijaya (Jakarta), Bob Edrian (Bandung), Chabib Duta Hapsoro (Bandung), Ayos Purwoaji (Surabaya), Lisistrata Lusandiana (Yogyakarta), Brigitta Isabella (Yogyakarta), and Manshur Zikri (Jakarta).
