PERFORM – Ilmin Museum of Art, Seoul, South Korea

On December 12-16, 2018, 69 Performance Club represented by Otty Widasari, Pingkan Polla, and Prashasti Wilujeng Putri had the opportunity to visit Ilmin Museum of Art, Seoul, South Korea to fulfill the invitation to the “PERFORM” program, an annual Ilmin Museum of Art program that exhibits performance art along with discussion forums about performance art. 69 Performance Club involved in one of the panels at the discussion forum entitled “Media Performance“. In the panel held on December 13, 2018, Otty Widasari read her essay on the chronology of performance art in Indonesia, Forum Lenteng, Akumassa, and 69 Performance Club. She was accompanied by Prashasti Wilujeng Putri and Mi Seok from Ilmin Museum of Art as the interpreter. On the same day there were also other panels, unfortunately, the panel only used Korean so we couldn’t take part in the discussion.

Otty Widasari’s performance entitled “Oh Parmitu (The Supper)” took place the next day, December 14, 2018. At the performance, Otty tried to play with her own awareness threshold. Otty drinks a bottle of wine to get drunk slowly until it runs out, she also uses a metronome, wooden chopsticks, and live broadcast on YouTube as the medium. The performance was very intense. On the same day, Prashasti Wilujeng Putri presented her performance work entitled “Kode Baik (Good Code).” In the performance, she did a martial arts competition along with figures on Instagram Live. The score is seen from how much love is given by the Instagram Live audience and the audience in the room which the performance took place by pressing the bell connected to the scoreboard. The audience seemed enthusiastic to contribute because this performance was interactive.

Pingkan Polla presents her performance art the next day, December 15, 2018. The work entitled “The Three Percuss” tries to illustrate the boundaries between dancing and dance that are limited by the Instagram Live space. For 25 minutes, she performed a dance movement with a scarf in hand connected to a trolley. In the trolley, there is a cellphone camera that records the audiences in the room and broadcast it via Instagram Live. After the performance was over, the three of them had the opportunity to chat for a while with friends from  Ilmin Museum of Art. They are Haesun Chung, Seungwan, Do Yeon, and Juhyun Cho who are the curator at Ilmin Museum of Art. The discussion topics led to Forum Lenteng activities and other conversations that were still related to Otty and Asti’s presentation about Forum Lenteng and 69 Performance Clubs in the previous panel discussion. That meeting closed their visit to Ilmin Museum of Art and Seoul because the next day they had to return to Jakarta.
