Post-Earthquake Research in Lombok

Post-Earthquake Research in Lombok

From 17-22 September 2018, Otty Widasari, Prashasti Wilujeng Putri, and Maria Christina Silalahi from Forum Lenteng went to North Lombok to see the situation and collect data on the earthquake there. Together with Yayasan Pasirputih, we interviewed several residents. The categorisation process for the selection of interviewees conducted when we were at the location using the snow-balling method. We try to collect data about natural phenomena before and after the earthquake. For this reason, we selected the following sources: residents who managed to save themselves from high-rise buildings, residents who had livestock, residents who were in the middle of the sea when the earthquake occurred, residents who had homes on the island (Gili Meno), and residents who had hotels. The story about their experience observing natural events just before and after the earthquake happened we recorded it with a video camera, and then we put it together and discussed it again with experts in related fields.

We also do this research to support curatorial research for “Bangsal Menggawe”. “Bangsal Menggawe” which in 2018 did not take place because of the earthquake will be held around January-February 2019. This research trip aims to find out the condition of the community in Pemenang, North Lombok and assess the extent to which art can enter the lives of citizens so that citizens can channel their cultural expressions and also with love and the spirit of jointly building their areas which were devastated by the earthquake.
