REMEMBRANCE OF THINGS PAST: DHANURENDRA PANDJI’S SOLO EXHIBITION

The solo exhibition titled “Remembrance of Things Past” became the solo exhibition for the first Milisifilem participants held at Forum Lenteng, after two previous exhibitions titled “Do You See Iskandar?” and “Good, but” exhibiting the works of the participants of Milisifilem collectively. Friday, March 22, 2018, at 8:00 p.m., the exhibition was opened by Luthfan Nur Rochman, the curator, one of the participants of Milisifilem, explaining how this exhibition was held on the challenge given by Hafiz Rancajale, a facilitator at Milisifilem.

Luthfan in his speech revealed the process of how he and Dhanurendra Pandji, the participating artist Milisifilem, developed the idea of a solo exhibition based on the similarity of perceptions about life which he called “romantic”. Pandji brought up the idea of his past reconstruction when he lived in Manggong Village, Ngadirejo District, Temanggung, Central Java in the middle of 2006-2007. Luthfan as the curator framed the practice of drawing oil pastels from the works of Pandji as an archaeography practice, in connection with the background his bachelor degree in the Department of Archeology, University of Indonesia.

The event continued with an artist talk, which was moderated by Otty Widasari, Roman Picisan class facilitator, reviewing the process and ideas offered to the public through this exhibition. The titles of the 40 works exhibited which is “Remembrance of Things Past” were taken from the novel’s title by Marcel Proust. The process of forming geometric fields with low-density figure interruptions contained in Panaji’s drawing works was assessed by Luthfan as an effort to achieve the Proust effect.

The tendency to simplify what Otty Widasari reads is answered by Pandji as artistic speculation in processing his memory to the nature of form. Along with the final paragraph of the curatorial introductory text, Lutfan said, that the drawing practice carried out by Pandji was an alternative if it could not be considered as a counter to the millennial generation who were accustomed to filing their memories mediated.

This exhibition runs from March 22, 2018 – April 18, 2018, at 13:00 to 21:00, accompanied by a Discussion that will take place on April 13, 2018, at 19:00 at Forum Lenteng.
