Discussing Robert Bresson, it would be difficult not to talk about the evolution of the aesthetic form of cinema he brought, and then how it influences the development of world cinema’s language, not only in France. During his four-decade career as a filmmaker, Robert Bresson has laid down a solid foundation on what cinema is, as a form of art that is independent and not directly attached to other forms of media such as painting, theatre and music. For him, the camera able to reveal the truth, in which nature is not mimetic, both toward the construction of other media of art, as well as the reality experienced in everyday life. His vision of the cinema is visible not only from the films he made but also within the texts he wrote, interviews and some studies that focus on his films. Based on these sources, Forum Lenteng will hold Senin Sinema Dunia #12: Robert Bresson, taking place from 8 October to 26 November 2018. There will be eight films screened in this program, which have been selected from his thirteen feature films. This selection is related to the aesthetic evolution that occurred in Robert Bresson’s films, which feature his canonical works along with less discussed works.
