On August 8-16, 2018, for the sixth time, Forum Lenteng held ARKIPEL. ARKIPEL 2018 raised homoludens as its theme. Inspired by a book of the same title by Johan Huizinga (1938). No less than 1,400 films from 80 countries are submitted. Of all programs, a total of 82 films were screened during the festival. Some of the programs highlighted in ARKIPEL homoludens include the Forum Festival: consisting of five panels discussing current cinema issues, Kultursinema Exhibition #5: Gelora Purnaraga, Candrawala which presents six curated films which considered can represents today’s Indonesian cinema landscape, Focus on Kidlat Tahimik presented by Merv Espina (the Philippines) through three programs, and the Premiere of Black-White Film Project by Milisifilem. After going through discussions between the four judges – Hafiz Rancajale (Indonesia), Dave Lumenta (Indonesia), Azar Mahmoudian (Iran), and Ronny Agustinus (Indonesia) – finally an agreement was reached to confer the Jury Award to A Room With a Coconut View and Open Skylight , Peransi Award to De Madrugada, and ARKIPEL Award to The Fly Misery of Quame Nyantakyi. Forum Lenteng Award, which was chosen by members of the Forum Lenteng, was given to Rimba Kini – one of the curated films on Candrawala. In line with the current social, political and cultural situation, homoludens are represented as an effort to read the situation when the digital age brings through sophisticated performativity for the body—not just a matter of a new revival of craftsmanship in using the devices, such as expertise of using the software, but also recalls the function of body toward something primordial, becoming “performative” and “spontaneous”–in seeing and framing: the playing; because it brings us to the most essential of us: humanity.
