ESION: Sound Performance

ESION: Sound Performance

Thursday, January 10, 2019, Anggrek Class of Milisifilem Collective presented a sound performance entitled “ESION” at Akademi Arkipel which was held at Villa Athaya, Bogor.

During the process, all participants recorded audio in certain locations when they sketched while working at Forum Lenteng. Then all participants map the sound of the recordings and then agree to choose some particular symbols which include events or activities using the graphics score method. Even though it uses a soundscape composition approach, the participants have their own decision to interpret their recordings. The audio signal that is processed on the device and the sounds present in the room are recomposed. The experimentation then produces sounds with noise characteristics that are directly mixed.

During the performance, Maria Deandra and Pychita Julinanda talked very loudly to disturb the spectators who watched. The audience’s reaction was different, most of them were very disturbed. “Ssssttt” is the sound that was always present that night. Some faces also showed their expressions of resentment that night. After a while, all realized that the action was part of the performance, which their conversation was part of the sound composition that was presented that night.

The discussion session after the presentation was opened with a question on how the process works, how a noise composition can be experienced, noise scene in Indonesia, as well as the possibility of the body and space that interacted with sound as an intact medium.
